Fernie is quickly becoming one of Canada's mountain biking hotspots. While there are many relaxing country trails in the region, the area's challenging mountainous single track is what everyone is talking about! Here is a sampling of several more popular rides in Fernie and the surrounding Elk Valley:

Trail Maps can be purchased at local businesses and at Visitor Info-Centre for $5, proceeds go towards trail maintenance.

1Cokato Road out towards Morrisey from Fernie is an easy half day pedal as it passes through the pastoral beauty of the valley's farms and ranches.

2 The Coal Creek Heritage Trail which starts behind the Fernie Aquatic Centre is a moderate ride which leads riders to the ruins of the old Coal Creek townsite.

3 At Fernie Alpine Resort, mountain bikers can have their bikes hauled on the chair for an exhilarating all-downhill ride! Trails such as Kodiak Karnage and Aireal Assualt will have you screaming for more! Single-ride and day passes are available at the resort. The resort is continually adding its excellent variety of trails. Visit the Moutain Edge shop to get a map or bike rental.

4 Many consider Roots to be the classic Fernie Ride.  If you are really looking to sweat, hook onto Roots Extension at the end of the Roots trail.  Watch out for roots!

5 Looking for a challenge. Check out the Ich Bin Sofa Trail by Fernie. Gnarly steeps and technical riding make this a favorite of expert riders.

6 Island Lake Lodge offers seemingly endless trails for both hard-core and leisurely mountain bikers.

Fernie Trail Guide and Rumors, Routes & Rapids and The Secret of Single Track are other useful local publications available through local businesses.
